Twenty‐three of Tar Heel Middle Schools Beta Club members attended the North Carolina Junior Beta Convention. Kelsey Lewis, an 8th grader at Tar Heel won 3rd place in the Watercolors event.

During the convention, all members participated in various academic and artistic competitions. The following members for their participation in the state convention: Justus Belle, Conner Brisson, Candice Burden, Gabriel Cruz, Zachary Everitte, Taylor Corey, Victory Crawford, Gerardo Cristobal, Samaria Grant, Jenifer Gaytan Morales, Jose Luis Osorio, Jacob Hester, Edgardo Lara, Cheyenne Lewis, Kelsey Lewis, Jacob Lopez, Sandra Maldonado Ortiz, Dajuan McDowell, Danae McMillan, Diana Panameno, Alexis Ray, Ivany Rosales, and Mohagany Rozier. The club is sponsored by Phillip Turnage, social studies teacher at Tar Heel Middle School

Sixty‐two of Clarkton School of Discovery’s Beta Club members attended the North Carolina Junior Beta Convention. This year’s theme was “Betas, Rocking’ the Country.”

During the convention, members participated in various academic and artistic competitions. Clarkton brought home several medals in the following: 2nd Place Group Talent, 3rd Place Songfest, 2nd Place Wreath, 3rd Place Campaign Skit, and 1st Place Banner. Clarkton student, Marshall Tatum served as the NC Junior Beta Club secretary and teacher Heather Thompson served as the NC State Junior Beta Club Sponsor. Autumn Brisson was elected the NC Junior Beta Vice‐president for the 2015‐2016 school year.

Seven of East Bladen High Schools Beta Club members attended the North Carolina Senior Beta Convention. This year’s theme was “Betas, Rocking’ the Country.”

During the convention, all members participated in various academic and artistic competitions. East Bladen brought home several medals in the following: 3rd place – Joshua Robbins, Agriculture Division II, 2nd place – Terrence Southern, Agriculture Division I, and 2nd place – Maria Colorado, Math Division I.

The following members participated in the state convention: Terrence Southern, Abby Norris, Joshua Robbins, Kathryn Cole, Lindsey Bockover, Maria Colorado and Miller Heustess. The club is sponsored by Anita Willington, Cheryl West, and Betty Conner.

Members of the Varsity Science Olympiad team competed recently in the regional competition and brought home two medals in the following: 4th place – Cheyenne Lewis and Alexis Ray, Write It, Do It, 6th place – Edgardo Lara and Brenda Dimas, Green Generation.
The following members participated in the state convention: Nathan Brisson, Noah Bryan, Katie Hoffman, Edgardo Lara, Cheyenne Lewis, Danae McMillan, Mohagany Rozier, Brenda Dimas, Joseluis Osorio, Conner Brisson, Victor Lopez, Alexis Ray ,Tristen Sadler, Geraldo Cristibal, and Tyler McMoullier. The team is sponsored by Science teacher David Wimert.

The Junior Varsity and Varsity Science Olympiad teams at Clarkton recently participated in the Regional Science Olympiad competition and brought home several medals in the following: Amelia Harris received the WISE Medal ‐ Women in Science Education; JV Team – 4th place – Wheeled Vehicle: Jacob Bryan and JT Junious, 2nd place – Picture This: Marley Fletcher, Ashlyn Futrell, and Sammi Jiang, 1st place – Air Trajectory: Nick Norris and Sammi Jiang; Varsity Team – 8th place – Bridge: Zach Yankasky and Jordan Stanley, 8th place – Picture This: Mariah Smith, Mari Smith, and Izzy Smith.

The Varsity Science Olympiad team at East Bladen recently participated in the regional Science Olympiad competition and won several medals in the following: 3rd place – Experimental Design: Abby Norris, Kathryn Cole, and Miller Heustess; 1st place – Egg‐o‐naut: Abby Norris and Lindsey Bockover; 1st place – Bridge building: Abby Norris and Kathryn Cole. The team is sponsored by: Jennifer Hair, Cheryl West, Betty Conner.

Student Attendance Banners were presented to the following: Elementary School Division ‐ with an average student attendance during the month of March at 94.54%, Booker T. Washington Primary School, under the leadership of Mr. Ronald Coley is the recipient for April; Middle School Division ‐ with an average student attendance during the month of March at 96.54%, Clarkton School of Discovery, under the leadership of Ms. Stephanie Ensminger is the recipient for April; High School Division ‐ with an average student attendance during the month of March at 92.17%, West Bladen High School, under the leadership of Mr. Wesley Floyd is the recipient for the month of April.
