Bladen County Sheriff Jim McVicker hosted a training event for the Paul R. Brown Leadership Academy upperclassman Friday at the Bladen County Law Enforcement Association firing range.

Sgt. Gary Turlington said, “The purpose of the event was to demonstrate weapons safety and handling. The attending members are all working toward the goal of a military career. This will possibly give them the advantage of a head start.”

In attendance was the Bladen County Sheriff’s Office Training Section — Major Larry Guyton, Chief Deputy, and Sgt. Clay Caroll, who had worked all night the night before the class and volunteered his time for these students.

Sheriff McVicker fully supports the education of the county’s children and facilitates such events to reach into the communities we serve.

“We want these young men and women to understand that we are there to support them in any way possible,” said Turlington.
