Guard Kasee Singletary scored 5 of her 13 points in the final 3:14 to lead Bladenboro’s Lady Bulldogs to a 30-25 girls basketball victory over Clarkton School of Discovery in the Bladen Five Conference Tournament Championship Game at Bladenboro Thursday night.

Clarkton’s Khadijah Jones hit a free throw with 3:19 remaining that trimmed Bladenboro’s lead to 25-21.

Singletary ran down a full-court pass and dropped in a lay-up, then banked in a 3-point shot from the left wing for a 30-21 Lady Bulldog lead with 2:33 remaining.

Abbie Cross pumped in a 12-foot jumper, and Jones drove for a lay-up that pulled Clarkton to within 30-25 with 1:10 left. However Bladenboro dribbled out most of the remaining clock and held on for the win.

Singletary came up with a game-high 7 steals and had 3 rebounds as the Lady Bulldog pressure forced 36 turnovers. However Bladenboro committed 26 turnovers.

Jordan Benson tallied 8 rebounds, 4 steals and 3 rebounds. Guard Lexie Corrothers finished with 4 points, 6 rebounds and 3 steals. Forward Essance Murphy scored 4 first-quarter points for the Lady Bulldogs.

Jones posted a double-double with 18 points, 10 rebounds and 4 steals for the Lady Blue Devils. Cross added 6 points, and Cybil Campbell grabbed 7 rebounds.

Izzy Smith pulled down 6 rebounds, Lorna Mendell totaled 4 rebounds and 4 steals and Jaya Howell had 4 rebounds as the Lady Blue Devils held a 39-23 advantage on the boards.

Bladenboro’s Essance Murphy popped in a corner jumper for the game’s first basket, but Jones put back a rebound, and Cross nailed a 15-footer for a 4-2 CSD lead.

Singletary banked in a 13-footer, Corrothers turned a steal into a lay-up, and Murphy canned a 10-footer from the baseline to put Bladenboro up 8-4. A Jones free throw closed the gap to 8-5 at the quarter break.

Jones banked in a runner, and Cross drilled in a 17-footer to edge Clarkton in front 9-8. Singletary raced end-to-end for a lay-up that put Bladenboro ahead to stay at 10-9.

Benson banked in a follow shot from 6 feet, then tossed in another 6-footer off of a feed from Singletary. Bladenboro’s Tykia Deloach and Campbell traded free throws to end the half with the Lady Bulldogs on top 15-10.

Jones knocked down a 12-footer to begin the third period, but Benson answered with a 4-footer then banked in a 16-footer. Singletary drained a 3-point shot to push the Lady Bulldog lead to 22-12.

Jones sprinted end-to-end for a Clarkton lay-up, drove for another lay-up and capped the quarter with a free throw that sliced the Bladenboro lead to 22-17.

Two more Jones free throws whittled the margin to 22-19, but Corrothers beat the Clarkton press for a lay-up and a 25-20 Bladenboro lead with 3:26 left to play.
