overall winners at golf tournamentThe 26th Annual Bladen We Care Byron Gooden Memorial Golf Tournament was held Thursday, April 23 at Vineyard Golf At White Lake located between Elizabethtown and White Lake. Fifty-seven teams (228 players) from all areas of the southeastern United States converged on this beautiful day to participate in two tournaments (one in the a.m. and one in the p.m.). All money raised by Bladen We Care goes to needy healthcare recipients in Bladen County. An a.m. tournament started at 8:30 with 25 teams. The p.m. tournament kicked off about 2 p.m. with 32 teams. There were three flights in each tournament. The winners in the a.m. affair were: First Flight, winner, the team from University of North Carolina at Pembroke with a score of 58. Second place went to the Camp Clearwater team with a score of 61. Third place was taken by the Lennon Fisher team with a 62. The second flight was a three-way tie with Well’s Insurance, Cape Fear Valley Hospital and Unifirst all shooting 66. A scorecard playoff found Well’s Insurance winning. The third flight was also a three-way tie with Wells Fargo Bank, Coastal Beverage and Lower Cape Fear Hospice shooting 69. Wells Fargo won the scorecard playoff.
Long drive winners were Pam Taylor and Mark Thomas. Closest to the hole was won by Michael Davenport, Quillie Evans, Bill Phillips and Rod Brickles.
 
The p.m. tournament winners were: First Flight…Goldston’s Beach 55, BB&T/Matrix 57, Giorgio’s Restaurant 58. Second Flight…A three way tie with 63’s found Carolina Blueberry Association taking first place over Lumberton Chevrolet and Little Debbie. Third Flight…A three way tie with 68’s found Star Telephone/RJR taking first place over Dr. Dave Allen and Frito Lay. Long drive winners were Christine Czech and Luke Sampson. Closest to the hole was won by Travis Thompson, Phillip Mims, Greg Powell and Eddie Brown.
 
The overall winners of the tournament were Goldston’s Beach team with a 17-under 55.
