DUBLIN – West Bladen failed to put South Brunswick away at the foulline Tuesday night as the Cougars rode a 16-10 closing surge to a 46-45 victory in non-conference boys basketball action.

The Knights carried a 35-30 lead into the fourth quarter, and junior Jonathan Robinson and senior Kalvin Page threw in a basket each, and senior John Bowen nailed a 3-point shot. However West Bladen missed 4 of 7 free throws in the quarter including the front-end of 2 one-and-one opportunities. For the game the Knights were 18 for 28 from the line, while the Cougars were 11 of 15.

The Cougars connected on 7 of 11 foul shots in the period led by Jace McKenney who sank 4 free throws and another basket. Brandon Gonzales drained a 3-point shot to edge the Cougars in front.

Kareem Randolph topped the Cougar scoring with 13 points, and McKenney finished with 10.

Senior Sayaun Dent led the Knight scoring with 15 points, and Bowen buried a trio of 3-point shots to finish with 14 points. Page and junior Jimmy Williams totaled 6 points each.

Dent delivered 2 baskets and 3 free throws in the opening quarter, and Bowen bombed in a 3-pointer and another basket as the Knights edged ahead 16-15.

The momentum shifted in the second period as Randolph fired in a 3-pointer to go with 2 more baskets that propelled South Brunswick to a 28-22 halftime lead. Dent popped in a basket and 2 free throws for West.

Momentum went back the other way in the third quarter as the Knights rode a 13-2 blitz to a 35-30 lead. Bowen led the charge by knocking down a 3-point shot and a trio of free throws. Dent added a basket and a foul shot in the period, and Robinson and Williams contributed a basket each.

The Knights will travel to West Columbus Wednesday.
