BaseballWest Robeson scored 15 runs in the top of the last inning to defeat Elizabethtown in the championship game of the District 9 Coach-Pitch Supplemental Tournament in Fairmont.

Both teams finished the tournament with one loss each. Elizabethtown had defeated West Robeson 14-10 in the round robin phase of the tournament.

In Tuesday’s game Elizabethtown scored 3 runs in the second inning. Peyton Tatum hammered a double, and Jake Gooden knocked in Tatum with a single. Easton Bostic drove in Gooden with a single, and Brodie Bryant cracked a single that scored Bostic.

Laila Smith led off the Elizabethtown third inning with a single and raced home when Lucas Johnson slammed a double.

Tatum and Gooden sparked a 3-run Elizabethtown fourth inning with singles. Bostic belted a single that scored Tatum, and Joshua Freeman smashed a double that drove in Gooden. Bostic darted home on Bryant’s fielder’s choice.

Allister Russ started a 2-out Elizabethtown rally in the fifth inning with a single. Johnson swatted his second double of the game, and Torrean Cogdell drove in Russ with a single.

Tatum walloped a double to begin the Elizabethtown sixth. Gooden smacked a single, and Colin King’s fielder’s choice plated Tatum with the final run of the game.

Johnson, Cogdell, Tatum, Gooden and Bostic all batted a perfect 3-3 to lead the Elizabethtown hitters. Russ, Freeman, Bryant and Smith added one hit each.

Johnson and Tatum blasted 2 doubles each, and Cogdell and Freeman slugged one double each.
