BaseballEvan Pait pitched four strong innings of relief as Elizabethtown opened the District 9 Minors Tournament in Red Springs with a 9-3 victory over West Robeson American.

Tyrone Mathis started and pitched the first two innings for Elizabethtown, and Pait took over on the hill in the third inning and finished up.

Pait and Coleman Tatum led the winners at the plate with 2 hits each and both of them scored 2 runs each. Teammates Garrison Tatum and Walker Ward connected for one hit each.

Garrison Tatum scored 3 runs for Elizabethtown, and Jake Futrell and Jackson Wright scored one run each for the winners.

Coach Clarence “Smiley” Butler’s Elizabethtown  team advances to a second round game Saturday night at 8:00 against the winner of Lumberton National and Red Springs – that game was suspended by the weather and will be finished today (Saturday) at 2 p.m.
