SPRINGFIELD, NJ- Fairmont’s William McGirt finished in a 3-way tie for tenth place in the Professional Golf Association Championship Sunday at Baltusrol Golf Club.

Two early birdies at No. 1 and No. 4 moved McGirt to within 2 shots of the lead that was held by eventual champion Jimmy Walker. However 3-putt bogeys at No. 6 and No. 8 plus another bogey at No. 9 dropped him out of contention.

McGirt who played White Lake’s Carolina Sands Golf Course (now Vineyard Golf at White Lake) quite a bit during his high school career closed the tournament with birdies at No. 17 and No. 18 to finish with a final round 70 and a four-round total of 273 that was 7 strokes behind Walker’s 266.

It was McGirt’s seventh top-10 finish of the year and his first top-10 and first time making the cut in a major championship.
