The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for the Cape Fear River at William O. Huske Lock and Dam No. 3 and at Elizabethtown Lock No. 2.

At 10 a.m. Wednesday, the river’s stage at Huske Lock and Dam was 38.0 feet. Flood stage is 42.0 feet. The National Weather Service forecasts the river to rise above flood stage about midnight and continue to rise to near 50.7 feet by Saturday morning. Moderate flooding of areas along the river are expected.

At the Elizabethtown locks, flood stage is 25.0 feet. At 11 a.m., the river’s stage was at 16.9 feet. The forecast calls for the river to crest at 27.6 feet by Saturday night. At 27 feet, floodwaters will affect farmers’ fields adjacent to the river requiring the movement of farm equipment to higher ground.
