ELIZABETHTOWN – East Bladen blitzed East Columbus with a 16-0 opening run then held on for a 47-38 victory Tuesday night in non-conference girls basketball action.

It was the third straight victory of Coach Patty Evers’ Lady Eagles who avenged a 57-37 loss in their season opener at East Columbus last week.

Sophmore Ja’Tyra Moore-Peterson who topped all scorers with 19 points sparked the early Lady Eagle surge with a 3-point basket, a pair of 2-point hoops and a pair of free throws.

Junior Shardajah Brown buried a 3-point shot, and senior Emily Scott and sophmore Ashley Hardin dropped in baskets for East Bladen. The Lady Gators rallied to within 16-5 at the quarter break.

Scott and freshman Patience Ward pumped in 2 baskets each in the second quarter, and Moore-Peterson bombed in a 3-pointer and hit 2 free throws for a 29-23 Lady Eagle lead.

Guard Tia Campbell raced down the court for 6 baskets in the quarter for the Lady Gators, and forward Charity Powell added 4 points.

The East Bladen defense clamped down in the third period and limited the Lady Gators to only a pair of Powell baskets. Meanwhile Moore-Peterson, Brown, Scott and Ward delivered one basket each as the Lady Eagle lead grew to 37-27.

Moore-Peterson threw in 2 baskets and a foul shot in the final period. Ward and Scott chipped in with a basket each, and Scott and Brown sealed the verdict with 2 free throws each.

Scott finished with 12 points, Ward totaled 8 points, and Brown chalked up 7 points for the winners.

Powell topped the East Columbus scoring with 15 points, and Campbell followed with 14.

East Bladen will host Word of God Academy Friday at 5 p.m.
