West Bladen’s Lady Knights built a 23-13 halftime lead en route to a 50-32 Four County Conference girls basketball victory over Heide Trask at Rocky Point Friday night.

Junior Alanna Ludlum, junior Logan Autry and freshman Erika McKoy threw in first quarter baskets, and Autry and junior Kaylee Stevens hit free throws as the Lady Knights took an 8-5 first quarter lead.

Junior Laikyn Pait fired in a pair of second quarter baskets and a free throw, and center Jerena Purdie worked the paint for 2 more baskets. Junior Kassidy Anderson and McKoy added a basket each, and sophmore Patience Parker canned 2 free throws as the Lady Knights stretched their lead to 23-13.

Pait drained a 3-point shot and another basket in the third period. Anderson, Autry and McKoy netted one basket each as the West Bladen lead grew to 34-23 at the quarter break.

Parker made all 4 of her free throws in the final period, and junior Akira Grimes pumped in a pair of fourth quarter baskets. Pait hit 2 free throws, and McKoy, Ludlum and Anderson scored a basket each as the Lady Knights closed the game with a 16-9 run.

Pait topped the West Bladen scoring with 12 points. McKoy finished with 8 points, and Parker and Anderson followed with 6 points each. Autry contributed 5 points, and Ludlum, Grimes and Purdie tallied 4 points each. Nine of the 12 Lady Knights who played in the game scored.

Junior Markayla Ballad led Heide Trask with 16 points.

Coach Rick Rhoda’s Lady Knights evened their conference record at 5-5 and are 7-12 overall. West Bladen will travel to Pender Tuesday night.
