East Bladen High SchoolELIZABETHTOWN – East Bladen’s Lady Eagles raced to a 7-0 halftime lead en route to a 9-0 mercy-rule girls soccer victory over Union Tuesday night in Four County Conference action.

Seven different Lady Eagles scored in the game. Junior Hannah Devane opened up the scoring with a goal off of an assist from sophomore Ashley Hardin. Hardin dished out 5 assists in the game.

Devane would score again and finished the game with 2 goals and an assist. Senior Justyna Gargala fired in 2 goals and had one assist. Senior Lexi Mendell, freshman Patience Ward, sophomore Sarah Johnson, sophomore Ashton Magby and sophomore Victoria Pridgen all scored one goal each for East Bladen.

“It was a nice win to bounce back from last year’s tough match (a loss to Clinton),” said Lady Eagle Coach Jay Raynor. “The girls came out with a little more bounce in their step and seemed to be more relaxed. We controlled the match from the start which allowed our starters some time but also gave our substitutes and inexperienced players a lot of playing time.”

Raynor added, “We were able to move some girls around and try some different things. It’s always good to give minutes to everyone. Our subs played really well tonight. The girls got to the goal and put up a lot of shots which kept the ball off our end of the field.”

Sophomore goalkeeper Ting Lin did not have to make any saves in the game since the East Bladen defense did not allow any shots on goal.

“Victoria and Ashton got their first goals tonight and that was awesome,” said Coach Raynor. “Those girls work hard and with more experience will be solid players. We were a bit banged up from last night and being able to rest our starters hopefully will pay off when we travel to Midway Thursday.”

East Bladen, now 4-2 in league play and 8-2 overall, will be at Midway Thursday at 6 p.m.
