WASHINGTON – Congressman Robert Pittenger (NC-09) is pleased to announce that Grace Academy senior Sam McGee has received a prestigious appointment to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.

Mr. McGee is captain of the Grace Academy golf team and serves on student council, while also working part-time for Chick-fil-A.

“My entire childhood I always felt safe and secure thanks to the United States military and now I want to do my part to provide that same sense of security for the next generation,” said Mr. McGee. “There is not a more highly respected and honorable profession than that of an officer in the United States Armed Forces.”

Mr. McGee is the son of Daniel and Dawn McGee and lives in south Charlotte.

“Sam is very aware of his blessings, and focused on giving back,” said Congressman Pittenger.  “Congratulations to Sam on this remarkable achievement!  We look forward to watching Sam emerge as a leader.”

Mr. McGee is one of thirteen local students to receive prestigious U.S. Service Academy appointments for the 2016-2017 school year.  Congressman Pittenger will host two “Service Academy Days” later this spring in Charlotte and Fayetteville to give local students the opportunity to learn about the rigorous nomination process.  Call 704-362-1060 for details.
