Four people were arrested after a high speed car chase starting on Highway 87 in Elizabethtown ends in a wreck according to Highway Patrol Sgt. Matt Hardee.

Sunday afternoon around 3:30 pm a driver from Florida with three other passengers jumped the washout on Cromartie Road in Elizabethtown trying to flee from law enforcement according to Highway Patrol Sgt. Matt Hardee.

A rental vehicle with a male driver, around the age of 34 years old, was clocked going 85-90 miles per hour on Highway 87 by Trooper White according to Hardee. The driver turned on Cromartie Road during the chase not knowing the road was washed out during Hurricane Matthew. The driver’s vehicle jumped the washout hitting the drain tile and flipping onto its side according to Hardee.

All four people in the vehicle sustained injuries, none are life threading. All are facing charges. A large amount of alcohol was involved according to Hardee.

“It could have been much worse.” Hardee said.

The three passengers were all under the age of 21. No officers were injured during the pursuit.
