East Bladen High SchoolELIZABETHTOWN – Sophomore Pierce Melvin pitched a one-hitter and struck out 6 to lead the East Bladen jayvees to an 11-1 Four County Conference jayvee baseball victory Tuesday over Union.

Freshman Gabe Barber led off the Eagle first inning with a single and stole second base. Freshman Jordan Robinson followed with another single. Sophomore Spencer Scott belted a single that scored Barber, and Melvin knocked in Robinson and Scott with a single.

Josh McKoy drove in Melvin with the fifth consecutive East Bladen hit of the inning. Davis Alsup’s fielder’s choice scored McKoy with the fifth Eagle run of the inning.

In the Eagle second inning, Barber cracked a one-out single, stole second base, advanced on a passed ball and dashed home when Scott delivered a single.

After Union trimmed the margin to 6-1 with an unearned run in the top of the fourth, the Eagles closed out the game on the mercy rule with 5 runs in the bottom of the fourth.

Freshman Jake Evans began the inning with a single, stole second base and scored on a pair of passed balls. Robinson walked, and Scott was hit by a pitch. Robinson scooted home as Melvin reached base on an error.

Scott and Melvin both advanced on a passed ball, and Josh McKoy drove in both runners with a single. McKoy stole third base and came around to score the game-ending run.

Scott batted 2-2 with 2 runs batted in and 2 runs scored. Josh McKoy finished 2-3 at the plate with 3 rbi’s and 2 runs. Barber was 2-3 with 2 runs scored.

Melvin singled, scored 2 runs and drove in 2 runs. Robinson singled and scored twice. Evans and Chancy added one hit each. Evans scored a run, and Alsup had an rbi.

The Eagle jayvees improved to 5-1 in league play and 7-2 overall. East Bladen will travel to Midway Thursday.
