ELIZABETHTOWN – Sophmore Pierce Melvin picked up the win Wednesday as East Bladen posted an 12-2 non-conference jayvee baseball victory over St. Pauls.

Melvin struck out six and gave up three hits in his 5 innings on the mound. The game was stopped after 4.5 innings due to the mercy rule.

The Eagles jumped in front with 5 runs in the first inning. Freshman Jordan Robinson, sophmore Spencer Scott and Melvin cracked consecutive one-out singles. Robinson scored on a balk, and Melvin’s single plated Scott.

Sophmore Eric Chancy drew a walk, before Josh McKoy walloped a 2-run triple that scored Melvin and Chancy. After Holden Clark drew a walk, Davis Alsup’s fielder’s choice plated McKoy for a 5-1 East Bladen lead.

The Eagles blew the game open with a 6-run third inning. Clark slammed a double, and Alsup walked. Freshmen Jake Evans reached on a fielder’s choice, and freshman Gabe Barber knocked in Clark and Evans with a single.

After Robinson walked, Scott knocked in Barber and Robinson with a single. Melvin walked but was retired on Chancy’s fielder’s choice. McKoy slammed a double that scored Scott and Chancy for an11-1 lead.

The Bulldogs scored a run in the top of the fourth, but the Eagles answered with a run in the bottom half. Clark led off with a single, moved up on a passed ball and raced home when Barber belted a single.

Clark batted 2-2 with a double and 2 runs scored. McKoy doubled and tripled, drove in 4 runs and scored one. Scott finished 2-3 at the plate with 2 runs batted in and 2 runs scored.

Barber batted 2-4 with 3 rbi’s and a run scored. Robinson and Melvin connected for one hit each. Robinson and Chancy scored 2 runs each. Melvin and Evans scored one run each, and Melvin and Alsup drove in one run each.

The Eagle jayvees, now 2-1, will host Midway Friday at 4 p.m. in their Four County Conference opener.
