ELIZABETHTOWN – Pierce Melvin and Holden Clark combined to pitch a 2-hitter and strikeout nine batters as East Bladen rolled to a 15-2 jayvee baseball victory over West Columbus Friday.

Melvin pitched 3 scoreless innings and struck out six, while Clark worked the final 2 innings on the mound and struck out three. Both pitchers allowed one hit each.

The first 9 Eagles – freshmen Gabe Barber and Jordan Robinson, sophmores Spencer Scott, Melvin and Eric Chancy, Josh McKoy, Clark, Davis Alsup and freshman Jake Evans – that went to the plate cracked hits during an 8-run, first-inning. All of them but Alsup scored in the inning.

Robinson and Scott also connected for hits in their second at-bats of the first inning. Chancy reached on an error to start the second inning, and Josh McKoy hammered a triple to drive him in. Mckoy scored later in the inning to pad the East lead to 10-0.

Barber, Robinson, Scott and Melvin belted singles to start the Eagle third inning. After a line drive double play, McKoy smacked a single. Barber, Robinson, Scott and McKoy scored runs as the lead grew to 14-0.

Scott slammed a double to drive in Aaron Todd who had singled with the final East Bladen run in the fourth.

Scott batted a perfect 4-4 with a double and 2 runs scored to lead the Eagle hitters. McKoy and Robinson both finished 3-3 at the plate. McKoy delivered the run-scoring triple and scored 3 times. Robinson scored 2 runs.

Barber and Melvin both batted 2-4. Barber and Chancy scored twice each, and Melvin, Clark, Evans and Todd scored one run each.

The Eagle jayvees, now 1-1, will host St. Pauls Wednesday at 4 p.m.
