Freshman Pierce Melvin pitched a 2-hit shutout as East Bladen’s jayvees pounded visiting Heide Trask 17-0 Tuesday.  The game was stopped by the mercy rule after 3.5 innings.

Melvin struck out 8 and walked four in his four innings of work to pick up the victory.

Freshman Shy Pone led off the Eagle first with a single and came around to scored on a passed ball. Freshman Dan Tatum drew a walk and scored on Melvin’s fielder’s choice.

Sophmore Devan Stocks was hit by a pitch, and sophmore Tanner Meares walked. Freshman Spencer Scott knocked in Stocks with a single, and Eric Chancy’s fielder’s choice plated Meares.

After Rhett Burney drew a walk, Scott Howell smashed a double to drive in Scott. Burney and Howell scored as Pone reached base on an error to put the Eagles up 7-0 after one inning.

Meares slammed a 2-out double in the second and dashed home when Scott cracked a single to put East ahead 8-0.

The Eagles erupted for 9 more runs in the third. Pone started the inning with a single and darted home on Tatum’s single. Melvin hammered a double to drive in Tatum. Melvin scored as Stocks reached base on an error.

Meares belted a single, and Scott reached on an error as Stocks scored. Chancy’s fielder’s choice plated Meares. Burney and Pone drew walks, before Tatum cleared the bases with a double. Tatum later scored the final run of the inning.

Meares batted 2-2 with a double, a run batted in and 3 runs scored. Tatum finished 2-3 at the plate with a double, 3 runs scored and 4 rbi’s. Pone batted 2-3 with 3 runs scored. Scott was 2-3 with 2 rbi’s and a run scored.

Melvin doubled, drove in 2 runs and scored one. Howell doubled, drove in a run and scored two. Burney and Stocks scored 2 runs each, and Chancy scored one. Stocks and Chancy drove in one run each.

The Eagle jayvees improved to 9-2 in league play and 11-3 overall and will travel to Wallace-Rose Hill Thursday.
