ELIZABETHTOWN – Sophmore Spencer Scott pitched a one-hitter Tuesday as East Bladen held on for a 5-3 Four County Conference jayvee baseball victory over Heide Trask.
Scott struck out 3, walked 3 and hit 2 batters in his 6 inning complete game. The Titans turned their only hit into a 1-0 first inning lead.
The Eagles answered with 3 runs in the home half of the first. Freshman Gabe Barber reached base on an error, and Davis Alsup beat out a bunt single. An error on Scott’s grounder loaded the bases.
Sophmore Pierce Melvin launched a sacrifice fly to rightfield that scored Barber. Josh McKoy’s fielder’s choice plated Alusp, and Holden Clark belted a single that drove in Scott for a 3-1 Eagle lead.
Freshman Xavier McKoy hammered a triple to begin the East Bladen second. After freshman Jake Evans and Alsup drew walks, Scott poled a sacrifice fly that scored McKoy for a 4-1 lead.
Xavier McKoy reached base on an error in the Eagle fourth inning, and Evans advanced him with a sacrifice bunt. McKoy raced home as Alsup reached base on an error to pad the lead to 5-1.
Trask scored 2 runs in the top of the sixth to close the final margin to 5-3.
Clark batted a perfect 2-2 with a run batted in to lead the Eagle hitters. Xavier McKoy slammed the triple and scored 2 runs. Alsup had the other East Bladen hit and scored a run.
Barber and Scott scored runs, and Melvin, Scott and Josh McKoy drove in one run each.
The East Bladen jayvees improved to 2-1 in league play and 4-2 overall. The Eagles travel to Wallace-Rose Hill Thursday at 4 p.m.
