TEACHEY – Sophmore Pierce Melvin pitched a one-hitter and struck out 14 batters to lead East Bladen to a 7-2 Four County Conference jayvee baseball victory Thursday over Wallace-Rose Hill.

The Bulldogs scored runs in the first and fourth innings against Melvin. Both runs were unearned.

The Eagles took an early 1-0 lead. Sophmore Spencer Scott was hit by a pitch, advanced on a fielder’s choice and dashed home on an error that allowed Josh McKoy to reach base.

After Wallace tied the game 1-1, the Eagles jumped back on top with a second inning run. Holden Clark reached base on an error, advanced on Eric Chancy’s sacrifice bunt and raced home when freshman Gabe Barber slammed a double.

In the Eagle third inning, Josh McKoy cracked a one-out single and stole second base. Davis Alsup was hit by a pitch, and Clark belted a single to load the bases.

Chancy’s fielder’s choice brought home McKoy, before freshman Jake Evans knocked in Alsup and Chancy with a single. Barber hammered another double that scored Evans and stretched the East Bladen lead to 6-1.

The Bulldogs trimmed the margin to 6-2 in the fourth, but the Eagles tacked on another run in the fifth. Chancy reached base on an error, stole second base and darted home when Evans delivered another single.

Barber batted a perfect 2-2 with the 2 doubles and 2 runs batted in. Evans finished 2-3 at the plate with 3 rbi’s and a run scored. Clark, freshman Jordan Robinson and McKoy added one hit each.
