Shy Pone and Spencer Scott combined to pitch a no-hitter and strike out 14 batters as the Blue Devils defeated Tar Heel 10-1 in a non-conference baseball game at Clarkton Monday.

Tar Heel took a 1-0 lead as Noah Bryan led off the game with a walk and scored three batters later.

Clarkton tied the game 1-1 in the bottom of the first.  Dan Tatum started the inning with a walk and stole second base. Pierce Melvin knocked in Tatum with a single.

The Blue Devils took a 3-1 lead in the bottom on the second.  After one out, Robbie Cooley, Marshall Tatum and Jake Evans drew walks to load the bases.  Tatum cracked a 2-run single that drove in Cooley and Tatum.

Clarkton broke the game open with six runs in the bottom of the third.  Shy Pone, Cody Butler, and Cooley drew walks to load the bases.  Pone raced home on Aaron Todd’s fielder’s choice.

Walks to Tatum and Greyson Heustess forced in Butler. Melvin smashed a double that drove in Todd for a 6-1 lead. Eric Chancy hammered a triple that cleared the bases and plated Tatum, Heustess, and Melvin.

Clarkton added a final run in the bottom of the fourth.  Holden Clark walked and later scored after singles by Todd and Chad Garner.

Pone worked the first 3 innings on the mound for the Blue Devils and struck out 9 batters.  Scott struck out 5 batters in his 2 innings on the hill for Clarkton.

Melvin slugged a double and a single to lead the CSD hitters. Melvin drove in 2 runs and scored one. Tatum cracked 2 singles, drove in 2 runs and scored twice.

Chancy walloped the 3-run triple, and Todd and Garner added one hit each to the Clarkton attack. Todd scored a run, and Todd and Garner drove in one run each.

Johnathan Salvetti and D. Byran shared the pitching duties for Tar Heel.

Clarkton School of Discovery will entertain Bladenboro Tuesday at 4 p.m. Tar Heel will be at home Tuesday against Elizabethtown.
