Shy Pone pitched a no hitter to lead Clarkton School of Discovery to 17-0 Bladen Five Middle School victory over host Tar Heel Thursday afternoon. Pone struck out 7, walked 2 and hit a batter.

Clarkton exploded for 13 runs in the top of the first inning.  Dan Tatum walked and Greyson Heustess reached on an error. Pierce Melvin drove in Tatum with a single. Holden Clark’s fielder’s choice plated Heustess.

Gabe Barber cracked a single to drive in Melvin. Pone was hit by a pitch, and Eric Chancy walked to force in Clark with the fourth run. Jake Evans knocked in Barber and Pone with a single. Tatum belted a single that brought in Chancy.

Heustess walloped a double that scored Evans and Tatum. Melvin blasted a triple, and Cody Butler was hit by a pitch. Barber ripped a double that scored Melvin and Butler.

Clarkton tacked on four more runs in the second inning. Tatum walked, stole second, and raced home on Juwan Baldwin’s single. Baldwin swiped second and third base and scampered home on Melvin’s single.

Butler laced a single that scored Melvin, and Butler crossed the plate later in the inning to close out the scoring.

Melvin topped the Clarkton hitters with a triple and 2 singles. Barber connected for a double and a single. Heustess slammed a double, and Tatum, Butler, Baldwin, Pone and Evans added a single each.

Catcher Dawson Bryan drew 2 walks for Tar Heel, and Demetrius McKoy was hit by a pitch.

Clarkton improved to 5-0 in league play and 8-0 overall.
