Adonis Avery poured in 16 points to lead Clarkton School of Discovery to a 59-26 Bladen Five Middle School Conference boys basketball victory over visiting East Arcadia Thursday.

After East Arcadia started the game with a 6-0 run, Clarkton finished the first quarter on an 11-1 spurt.

During that stretch, Clarkton scored multiple inside baskets by Adonis Avery, Drew Harris, and Pierce Melvin.  Just before the clock expired to end the first quarter, Melvin hit a long three pointer to give Clarkton an 11-7 lead.

Clarkton was able to increase the tempo of the game in the second quarter.  Greyson Heustess and Harris muscled inside for two baskets each.  Seven Campbell added a follow up two pointer, Melvin hit another three pointer, and Avery added a free throw allowing Clarkton to pull ahead 25-14 at halftime.

Avery lit up the scoreboard for 13 points during the third quarter with a three pointer and slashing moves to the basket. Campbell and Xavier McKoy continued strong inside play with a combined six points during the period.  Dan Tatum’s free throw gave Clarkton a 44-24 lead at the end of the third period.

Clarkton turned up the defensive pressure and forced multiple turnovers leading to easy baskets during the final period.  Campbell, Teyshaun Berkeley and Juwan Baldwin scored inside buckets.

Darrell Banks nailed a three pointer and free throw during the period.  Jake Evans hit two free throws as time expired to finish a 15-2 spurt during the fourth quarter.

Avery also collected 6 rebounds and 5 steals. Melvin sparked the Blue Devil defense with 8 steals. Tatum finished with 4 steals, and Baldwin, Evans, Shy Pone and Joshua Pope were credited with one steal each.

Berkeley, Harris and Campbell pulled down 7 rebounds each to lead Clarkton on the boards. McKoy followed with 6 rebounds. Heustess grabbed 2 rebounds, and Blanks added one rebound.

Harris blocked 2 shots for the winners who remained unbeaten with a 4-0 record. East Arcadia drops to 0-4 in the league.
