TAR HEEL – Quarterback Jake Garrison scored 3 touchdowns Thursday night to lead Clarkton School of Discovery to a 32-8 Bladen Five Middle School Conference football victory over Tar Heel.

The Blue Devils drove 52 yards in 6 plays on their first possession to take a 6-0 lead with 4:11 left in the first period. Elijah Whitaker scampered 25 yards for the touchdown.

The Panthers mounted a drive on their next possession, but Garrison picked off a Panther pass and sprinted 52 yards to the end zone for a 12-0 Clarkton lead with 7:00 on the first half clock.

Tar Heel’s Jadacus Register fielded the Blue Devil kick-off and raced 75 yards for a Panther touchdown. Register then swept around end for the 2-point conversion that sliced the CSD lead to 12-8.

The Blue Devils answered with a 65-yard, 8-play drive. Garrison circled the end on an 18-yard quarterback keeper for the touchdown with 1:16 remaining. Garrison also carried into the end zone for the 2-point conversion and a 20-8 halftime lead.

Clarkton traveled 51 yards in 3 plays on their first possession of the second half. Garrett Melvin and Whitaker broke loose for a 10-yard run each, before Garrison galloped 30 yards for his third touchdown of the game. Whitaker tacked on the 2-point conversion run to up the count to 26-8 with 2:43 left in the quarter.

A Panther fumble set up the final Clarkton touchdown. Melvin darted around right end and scooted 30 yards to the end zone 41 ticks before the quarter break. CSD led 32-8.

The Blue Devils racked up 215 yards of total offense. Garrison led the ground attack with 73 yards. Whitaker was right behind him with 69 rushing yards, and Melvin finished with 47 yards rushing.

Melvin and Garrison led the Clarkton defense with 6 tackles each. Joshua Hayes followed with 3 tackles, and Isiah Whitaker, J. T. Junious and Joseph Masaid totaled 2 tackles each. Will Hester had one tackle for the winners.

The Blue Devils evened their record at 2-2 and will travel to Elizabethtown Thursday. Tar Heel will host Bladenboro Thursday.
