Rusty Marsh with the North Carolina Department of Transportation said NC 242 North in the Ammon community has re-opened to motorists. Marsh said some seeding and mulching remain to be completed as well as erecting a guardrail a the Ammon repair site and a second repair site near Jones Lake State Park. Marsh said the road was slated to re-open at noon Thursday but was delayed by about one and one-half hours.

NC 242 North has been closed for repairs in two locations — near Jones Lake State Park and near Ammon– due to damage caused by Hurricane Matthew in October. With the re-opening on Thursday afternoon, NC 242 North is now open from NC 53 to the Bladen-Cumberland County line.

Marsh said NC DOT crews are still working to complete work on Owen Hill Road and on US 701 South at Western Prong. Marsh said the estimated date to re-open Owen Hill Road is early June and the estimated date to complete work near Western Prong on US 701 South is May 25.
