2015-Majors-All-Star-Team

Elizabethtown battled back from an early deficit but came up just short in a 4-3 loss to Burgaw in an elimination game of the Dixie Youth Majors State Tournament Wednesday night in Cerro Gordo.

With one out in the top of the first inning, Zack Meares blasted a solo home run over the left field fence to give Elizabethtown an early 1-0 lead.  Brady Hollingsworth reached base on an error, and Drew Sholar belted a single but were left on base.

Burgaw answered with two runs in the bottom of the first on two walks and two hits to jump in front 2-1.

Raymond Autry reached base on an error, and Makhi Cromartie cracked a single in the Elizabethtown second, but both runners were stranded on base.

Garrett Melvin beat out a bunt single to start the Elizabethtown third and moved to second base on Chase Starkloff’s sacrifice.  After Ethan Johnson walked, Meares reached base on an error that scored Melvin and tied the game 2-2. For the third inning in a row Elizabethtown left two runners on base.

Burgaw recaptured the lead with a run in the bottom of the third on an error, a hit and a walk.

RaSean McKoy slammed a double to begin the Elizabethtown fourth, but Burgaw retired the next three batters to end the scoring threat.

Meares ripped a double in the Elizabethtown fifth inning and later scored to knot the game at 3-3.

Burgaw regained the lead again with one run in the bottom of the fifth on two hits and walk.

McKoy laced a single to lead off the Elizabethtown sixth. One out later, Cromartie walked to give Elizabethtown two runners on base, but Burgaw retired the next two batters to end the game.

Meares walloped a home run and a double, scored twice and drove in a run to lead the Elizabethtown hitters. McKoy hammered a double and a single, and teammates Sholar, Cromartie and Melvin added one single each. Melvin also scored a run.

Coaches are Warren Sholar, Ashley Harrelson and Barry Priest.
