The Elizabethtown Rotary Club celebrated a year of service in the community on Wednesday as well as meeting the recipients of this year’s scholarships.

President Renee Horton addressed the club for the final time as her term as President came to a close. She shared a video of the club’s activities and programs from the past year. Horton said the club accomplished many goals this year including a successful 8K event in support of USO of North Carolina.

She shared the scripture Phillippians 1:3 which reads, “I thank my God upon every remembrance of you.”

Horton told the club that she was honored to know each member and to work alongside each one of them. She added she is eagerly looking forward to the coming year.

The Rotary Bell and gavel were presented to incoming Rotary President Charlotte Smith. “I look forward to this year.”

Smith said she is excited about the coming year ahead. She told the club that the Rotary Foundation will be celebrating its 100th anniversary this year.

“I look forward to this year and being your incoming President,” said Smith.

In other business, the club presented three scholarships to high school seniors. The recipients were Charity Taylor, Nicki Locklear, and Grace McDuffie.

Taylor is a graduate of West Bladen High School and is planning to attend Bladen Community College.

Locklear is also a graduate of West Bladen High School and is planning to attend Brown University.

McDuffie is a graduate of East Bladen High School and will be completing an Associate’s Degree from Bladen Community College soon. She is planning to continue her education at Wingate University.
