StevenArrested Wednesday, July 29th was Bernard Murchison, 52 of 1472 Baldwin Branch Church Road, Elizabethtown. Murchison had outstanding warrants from an undercover operation conducted by the Bladen County Sheriff’s Office and Elizabethtown Police Department, back in January of this year. He was also wanted on felony probation warrants.

Murchison was apprehended after a short foot pursuit at his residence. He was charged with two counts of Possession with intent to sell and deliver Cocaine, 2 counts of Sale of Cocaine, two counts of Delivering Cocaine, and two counts of Manufacturing Cocaine. In addition to his drug charges he was served with two counts of felony probation violation and one Order for Arrest for Failure to appear in court. He is currently in Bladen County Jail under a $171,000.00 bond.

On a separate matter, deputies arrested Steven Douglas Newgent at his residence on Culbreth Smith Road in the Ammon area of the county. Newgent had been sought for several weeks by Sampson County for felonious breaking and entering, felonious larceny, and felonious possession of stolen goods.

Newgent was also a fugitive from the state of Indiana for a felonious assault on a government official. Newgent was initially placed in Bladen County Jail under a $100,000 bond. He has since been picked up by Sampson County and is now in their jail, on their charges, and awaiting extradition to Indiana.

“Felons need to know we will keep looking for them till we locate them and bring them before the courts to answer the charges against them,” said Sheriff McVicker.
