Bladen County schools will be closed Tuesday for students because of the threat of hazardous weather, it was announced at 5:55 p.m. It will be optional workday for teachers and staff.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for Bladen County starting at 7 a.m. Tuesday and will remain in effect until 5 p.m. Tuesday.

The advisory is being issued in anticipation of a mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain Tuesday morning in Bladen County and surrounding areas.

There’s a possibility of up to a tenth of an inch of ice and up to a half of an inch of snow accumulation within the advisory area, according to the National Weather Service. Greater amounts may be received closer to the N.C. coast.

The snow, sleet and ice is expected to affect grassy surfaces, according to the advisory. Ice may stick to trees and power lines as well as untreated roadways and walkways.

Temperatures are expected to be in the upper 20s to lower 30s Tuesday.
