SoftballEast Bladen pounded out 19 hits en route to a 15-5 Four County Conference softball victory over visiting Pender Tuesday night.

Senior catcher Lexi Dawson and junior shortstop Abby Ward both batted 4-5 to lead the Lady Eagle hitters. Dawson blasted a double and a triple, drove in 2 runs and stole a base. Ward slammed a pair of doubles, knocked in 2 runs and stole 2 bases.

Junior center-fielder Lacey Suggs hammered a triple and a single and stole 4 bases for East. Senior Anna Brewer smashed a pair of doubles for the winners.

Sophomore Emily Scott belted a pair of singles, drove in a run and stole a base for East. Freshman Kaley Smith cracked a pair of singles, and senior Abbey Norris knocked in a pair of runs with a single.

Junior pitcher Miller Heustess and freshman Faith Johnson added one hit each to the Lady Eagle attack. Heustess also stole a base.

In the circle Heustess pitched all six innings to pick up the victory, striking out 4, walking none and giving up 7 hits.

East Bladen took a 2-0 first inning lead, before Pender jumped in front 3-2 in the top of the third. Five Lady Eagle runs in the bottom of the third made it 7-3 East, and five more in the fourth blew the game open at 12-4. A trio  of East Bladen runs in the home half of the sixth ended the game on the 10-run mercy rule.

Coach Patty Evers’ Lady Eagles improved to 9-1 in league play and 13-2 overall. East Bladen will travel to league-leader Heide Trask Friday night.
