ELIZABETHTOWN –Freshman Izzy Smith and senior Emily Scott belted 2 hits each during a 9-run, sixth-inning explosion that propelled East Bladen to a 15-6 Four County Conference softball victory over Union Tuesday night.

The two teams were tied 6-6 entering the bottom of the sixth inning. Scott ripped a one-out single through the middle, and Izzy Smith hammered a triple to left-centerfield that scored Scott with the go-ahead run.

Freshman Adrienne Howell reached base on an error, and sophomore Anna Kate White knocked in Izzy Smith with a single. Sophomore Olivia Hollingsworth swatted a single to right field that loaded the bases.

Sophmore Ja’Tyra Moore-Peterson drew a walk that forced home Howell. Freshman Johanna Parker walked to force in White, and junior Kaley Smith was hit by a pitch that forced in Hollingsworth.

Scott slammed a double to left field that scored Moore-Peterson and Parker. Izzy Smith drilled a single to centerfield that scored Kaley Smith and Scott and stretched the lead to 15-6.

“Emily had 2 big hits tonight after missing yesterday’s game with a stomach virus,” said East Bladen Coach Patty Evers. “Our freshman centerfielder, Izzy Smith, had two big hits as well.”

Izzy Smith batted 2-3 with the triple, 3 runs batted in and 2 runs scored to lead the Lady Eagle hitters. Scott finished 2-5 at the plate with a double, 2 rbi’s and 2 runs scored. Hollingsworth turned in a 2-3 game with an rbi and 2 runs scored.

Winning pitcher Kaley Smith batted 2-4 with an rbi and 2 runs scored. White, and Parker and Howell added one hit each. White had 2 rbi’s, and Parker and Moore-Peterson had one rbi each. Parker, White and Howell scored 2 runs each, and Moore-Peterson scored one run.

Union used a hit and an error to push across a first-inning run then added 4 runs in the second on 4 hits. An unearned Union run in the third pushed their lead to 6-0.

Parker beat out an infield hit in the East Bladen, scooted to third base on a throwing error and darted home on a wild pitch. Kaley Smith raked a single to left field, and Izzy Smith and Howell drew walks to load the bases.

White and Hollingsworth were both hit by pitches to force home Kaley Smith and Izzy Smith. Howell dashed home on a wild pitch. A throwing error on Moore-Peterson’s fielder’s choice scored White, and Hollingsworth sprinted home on a wild pitch to tie the score 6-6.

“Kaley threw the ball better today,” said Coach Evers. “When we are not making errors, she gains some confidence. I was happy with the defensive effort today.”

Hanna Smith and Shamyra Hope both batted 3-5 to lead the Union hitters. Teammate Ariana Bell finished 2-2 at the plate.

The Lady Eagles improved to 2-4 in Four County play and 3-5 overall. East Bladen will travel to Midway Thursday for a 6 p.m. game.
