DUBLIN – Senior Laikyn Pait blasted a 3-run home run, and West Bladen rolled to a 12-0 non-conference softball victory over South Brunswick Monday night.
The Lady Knights jumped in front early as senior Kassidy Anderson beat out an infield hit, and senior Alanna Ludlum drew a walk before Pait launched a towering blast over the left-centerfield fence for a 3-0 lead.
Anderson walked, stole a base and raced home on a throwing error that allowed senior Logan Autry to reach base in the second inning. After Ludlum ripped a single to left, Autry dashed home on a wild pitch.
Pait walked and stole second base before sophmore Carley Dawson knocked in Ludlum and Pait with a single to rightfield. Senior Sophia Singletary drilled a triple to right-centerfield that plated Dawson. Brisson slapped a single to left that scored Singletary and padded the lead to 9-0.
Ludlum and Pait drew walks to begin the Knight third inning. Carley Dawson lined a single to centerfield that drove in Ludlum, and Pait sprinted home when the ball skipped past the centerfielder. Singletary’s fielder’s choice plated Dawson and stretched the Knight lead to 12-0.
Singletary started in the circle for the Lady Knights and allowed 2 hits and no walks while striking out 2 in her 3 innings. Madison Collins pitched the final 2 innings and gave up 2 walks and no hits.
Carley Dawson finished 2-3 at the plate with 3 runs batted in and 2 runs scored. Brisson batted 2-3 with an rbi. Schultz was also 2-3 at the plate.
Pait slugged the 3-run homer, was 1-1 and scored 3 runs. Ludlum and Anderson were also 1-1. Ludlum scored 3 runs and Anderson scored twice. Singletary tripled, drove in 2 runs and scored one. Autry also scored a run.
“We did a better job of swinging at strikes tonight,” said Lady Knight Coach Joey Autry. “I was pleased with the pitching, We made some good plays on defense. It was a solid ballgame all the way around.”
The Lady Knights, now 2-1, will host Union Friday at 6 p.m. in their Four County Conference opener.
