Abbey Walters Pitches 1-Hitter; Strikes Out 11
FAYETTEVILLE – West Bladen grad Abbey Walters fired a one-hitter and struck out a career-high 11 batters Wednesday to lead UNC-Pembroke to an 8-0 victory in the opening game of a non-conference softball double-header.
Walters blasted a 2-run home run in the nightcap as the Lady Braves completed the double-header sweep with a 6-0 win. READ MORE

Lexi Dawson Belts 4 Hits in St Andrews Double-Header
RALEIGH -East Bladen grad Lexi Dawson batted 4-4 for St. Andrews Tuesday in a double-header at Meredith College. Meredith swept the double-header by scores of 2-1 and 8-0.
Dawson swatted a single down the leftfield line in the first inning of Tuesday’s opener and rapped a single through the middle to lead off the fourth inning. In her final at-bat Dawson drew a walk to finish 2-2 for the game. READ MORE

Southeastern Carolina Crossroads is gearing up for their second annual Golf Tournament to be held at Land O’Lakes Golf Course in Whiteville on Saturday, April 29, 2017. ELIZABETHTOWN – Junior Sincere Smith pitched a 2-hitter and struck out 7 batters Tuesday night to lead East Bladen to an 11-1 Four County Conference mercy-rule baseball victory over Union.
The victory moves Coach Russell Priest’s Eagles into a first-place tie in the Four County standings with West Bladen and Midway – all 3 teams have 5-1 league records. East Bladen has a 6-3 overall record. READ MORE

DUNN – Midway rallied for 5 runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to defeat West Bladen 5-4 Tuesday night in Four County Conference baseball action.
West Bladen took a 4-0 lead into the bottom of the sixth, but a pair of opposite field singles, 2 walks, a hit batsman and an error resulted in the 5 Raider runs. READ MORE
Softball: West Bladen 12, Midway 2
DUNN- West Bladen remained tied for first place in the Four County Conference softball race Tuesday night with a 12-2 mercy-rule victory over Midway.
Coach Joey Autry’s Lady Knights improved their record to 5-0 in the league and 9-1 overall. Wallace-Rose Hill defeated Pender 10-2 Tuesday night and is also 5-0 in conference play. READ MORE

ELIZABETHTOWN –Freshman Izzy Smith and senior Emily Scott belted 2 hits each during a 9-run, sixth-inning explosion that propelled East Bladen to a 15-6 Four County Conference softball victory over Union Tuesday night.
The two teams were tied 6-6 entering the bottom of the sixth inning. Scott ripped a one-out single through the middle, and Izzy Smith hammered a triple to left-centerfield that scored Scott with the go-ahead run. READ MORE
Girls’ Soccer: East Bladen 9, Union 0
ELIZABETHTOWN – East Bladen’s Lady Eagles raced to a 7-0 halftime lead en route to a 9-0 mercy-rule girls soccer victory over Union Tuesday night in Four County Conference action.
Seven different Lady Eagles scored in the game. Junior Hannah Devane opened up the scoring with a goal off of an assist from sophmore Ashley Hardin. Hardin dished out 5 assists in the game. READ MORE

ELIZABETHTOWN – Sophomore Pierce Melvin pitched a one-hitter and struck out 6 to lead the East Bladen jayvees to an 11-1 Four County Conference jayvee baseball victory Tuesday over Union.

DUNN – West Bladen scored 2 fifth-inning runs to snap a 4-4 tie and claim a 6-4 Four County Conference jayvee softball victory over Midway Tuesday.
Winning pitcher Brittany Landreth smacked a one-out single to start the Lady Knight fifth inning and advanced on an infield out. Indiyah Williams knocked in Landreth with a single to centerfield. READ MORE

Southeastern Fellowship Senior Golf Association Tourney Held At Vineyard Golf
The rains came early Tuesday morning but cleared up at 10 a.m. to allow 79 golfers to participate in the Tuesday, March 28, Southeastern Fellowship Senior Golf Association Tourney held at Vineyard Golf At White Lake. A new record was set at Vineyard Golf with the largest amount of golfers ever, 79, in a regular season tournament. READ MORE
Todd Pait Resigns as West Bladen Football Coach
Todd Pait has resigned as head football coach at West Bladen after one season at the helm of Knights. The resignation will be effective with the end of the current school year.
Coach Pait cited family issues as the reason for his resignation and will be returning to Tennessee with his family. He has accepted the job as defensive co-ordinator for Northeast High School in Clarksville, TN for next season. Pait shared his resignation letter with Bladen Online. READ MORE

ELIZABETHTOWN – Freshman Johanna Parker blasted a walk-off triple that drove in the winning run and lifted East Bladen to an 11-10 Four County Conference softball victory over Clinton Monday night.
The Lady Eagles pounded out 13 hits in the game led by Parker who finished 3-5 at the plate with a triple, a double, 4 runs batted in and 2 runs scored. Freshman Izzy Smith batted 2-3 with 2 rbi’s and a run scored. READ MORE

ELIZABETHTOWN – Junior Ty Watkins pitched a 4-hitter Monday night as East Bladen’s Eagles rode a 5-run fourth-inning to a 10-2 victory over Clinton in Four County Conference baseball action.

ELIZABETHTOWN – Freshman Taylor Spell fired in 3 goals to lead Clinton to a 9-0 Four County Conference girls soccer victory over East Bladen Monday night.

The Eagles took control early scoring 5 first-inning runs after 2 were out. Sophomore Dan Tatum cracked a single and stole second and third bases, while Scott drew a walk. Tatum darted home on a passed ball. READ MORE
Monday Tossup Results At Vineyard Golf
The team of Mac Porter, Gary Smoak, David Cross and Lenon Fisher won the Monday Tossup held at Vineyard Golf. Tossups are usually held on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at the course located between Elizabethtown and White Lake.
Kayla Thompson, UNCW Golfer, Ties For 34th Place In LSU Classic
UNCW golfer and Clarkton native Kayla Thompson came in 34th place in this past weekend’s LSU Tiger Classic played in Baton Rouge, La.
Kayla, a junior at UNCW, shot rounds of 74-78-74=226 to lead the Lady Seahawks to a tie for 9th place. The winning team were the Lady Blue Devils from Duke University. READ MORE

Practice Safety and Ethics as Turkey season opens in April
The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission reminds its constituents to practice safe and ethical hunting as wild turkey season opens April 8 and continues through May 6, preceded by a youth-only week from April 1 through April 7. The daily limit is one turkey and the possession and season limit is two turkeys per hunter, only one of which may be taken during youth season. READ MORE
Abbey Walters Cracks 3 Hits in UNC-P Marathon Game
ST AUGUSTINE (FL) – Bladenboro native Abbey Walters batted 3-5 in the marathon second game of a Peach Belt Conference double-header Sunday that her UNC-Pembroke Lady Braves lost 3-2 in 12-innings against Flagler.
Walters beat out a bunt single in the third inning, smacked a single to centerfield in the seventh inning, and singled off the pitcher in the ninth inning. READ MORE

West Bladen Boys Second in Pender Track Meet
BURGAW – West Bladen’s Knights finished second in the boys track meet at Pender Thursday. Pender’s boys won the meet with 144 points, while the Knights followed with 92 points. The only event winners for Coach Taurius Baker’s Knights were junior Justin Best in the 300 Meter Hurdles, and the 4×200 Meter Relay team.
Pender also won the girls meet with 179 points followed by Hobbton with 79 points. West Bladen placed third with 54 points followed by Clinton with 19 points. READ MORE
Clint Allen Belts 3 Hits in Coker Win
HARTSVILLE, SC – West Bladen grad Clint Allen smacked 3 hits Saturday as his Coker Cobras defeated Wingate 8-1 in the first game of a South Atlantic Conference double-header.
Allen singled to lead off the Coker third inning, advanced on a bunt and raced home on Thomas Lopez’ single to pad the Cobra lead to 2-0. The senior leftfielder ripped a single through the middle to drive in a run in the Cobras’ 3-run sixth inning. READ MORE

West Bladen Boys Win First Track Meet
ROSE HILL – West Bladen’s Knights won a track meet for the first time in school history Tuesday at Union. The Knights edged East Bladen and Wallace-Rose Hill 73 points to 71.5.
Midway finished fourth with 71 points and Union was fifth with 26 points. READ MORE

DUBLIN – Junior Scott Bowen pitched 3.1 innings of scoreless relief and belted 3 hits as West Bladen rallied for a 15-8 Four County Conference baseball victory over Clinton Friday night.
Bowen took the mound with 2-out and 2 runners in scoring position in the Dark Horses fourth inning and struck out the first batter he faced to end the inning with Clinton ahead 8-4. Bowen struck out 4 more batters, walked one and allowed only 2 hits over the final 3 innings. READ MORE

DUBLIN – Senior Logan Autry and sophmore Carley Dawson cracked 2 hits each to lead West Bladen to a 10-0 Four County Conference softball victory over Clinton Friday night.
Senior Sophia Singletary scattered 4 hits over 5 shutout innings to raise her pitching record to 7-1. “Sophia did a solid job on the mound and controlled the game for us,” said Lady Knight Coach Joey Autry. READ MORE

DUBLIN – Clinton racked up 8 first-half goals en route to a 9-0 Four County Conference victory over West Bladen Friday night.
Senior Katey Yang fired in 4 goals to lead the Lady Dark Horses. Freshman Taylor Spell added 2 goals and 2 assists for the winners. Clinton improves to 4-0 in the Four County and 8-1-1 overall.
West Bladen will travel to Midway Tuesday for a 6 p.m. match.

DUBLIN – Clinton blanked West Bladen 11-0 Friday in Four County Conference jayvee baseball action. The Knights are now 2-2 in league play and 6-3 overall. West Bladen will travel to Midway Tuesday for a 4 p.m. game.

TEACHEY – Wallace-Rose Hill defeated East Bladen 14-1 Thursday night in Four County Conference softball action.
Senior pitcher Haley Rivenbark slugged a home run that highlighted a 4-run first-inning for the Lady Bulldogs who added 4 more runs in the third and 2 in the third. READ MORE

The Lady Knights sent 24 batters to the plate in the first inning and pounded out 16 hits. Senior Logan Autry walked, stole second base and dashed home when senior Alanna Ludlum cracked a single. Senior Laikyn Pait knocked in Ludlum with a single. READ MORE

Elizabeth Allbright slammed a triple and a double, batted 4-4 and scored 2 runs to lead the West Bladen hitters. Sophmore Erica McKoy also batted a perfect 4-4 with a double and 3 runs scored. READ MORE

Bladen We Care Byron H. Gooden Golf Tourney Scheduled For Thursday, April 27
The 28th Annual Bladen We Care Byron H. Gooden Memorial Golf Tournament is scheduled for Thursday, April 27 at Vineyard Golf at White Lake located between Elizabethtown and White Lake. Bladen We Care is a community based, not for profit foundation, governed by a volunteer Board of Directors dedicated to raising and overseeing distribution of funds which will help provide health care for patients in need in Bladen County. Three Triathlons Scheduled For White Lake In April
The weekend of April 22-23 will find three triathlons scheduled for White Lake.
On Saturday April 22 at 7 a.m. the White Lake Spring Half 2017 will be held. This consist of a 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike and a 13.1 mile run. READ MORE
Four County EMC offers summer basketball camp scholarships
Four County EMC is giving two local middle school students an opportunity to attend college basketball camps this summer with Touchstone Energy Sports Camp Scholarships.
Four County EMC will select one boy to attend the Roy Williams Carolina Basketball Camp on June 17-21 at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and one local girls for the Wolfpack Women’s Basketball Camp on June 11-14 at North Carolina State University in Raleigh. The scholarships cover all expenses at the overnight camps, which provide a glimpse into life on a college campus. READ MORE
