Did you see the highly publicized documentary, “An Obvious Suspect” last evening?…WRAL/WILM produced the 30 minute report related to the murder of two Bladen County ladies and the charges and release of Joseph Sledge after 37 years in prison.  Nothing really new….with a few exceptions…DA Jon David said law enforcement officials had produced a DNA profile of the suspect.  And Sledge indicated he had plans to sue those who put him away for most of his life.  No names were mentioned.  The State of North Carolina gave him $750,000 for his unlawful prison term.
Another TV documentary related to Bladen County is set for Thursday evening on Public TV…White Lake resident Robert Kinlaw, a UNC Chapel Hill student, has produced the video production about his home town.. View it tomorrow (Thursday) evening at 10:15 p.m.
Another date to remember is Sunday afternoon from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.  The official opening of Southeastern Carolina Crossroads will be celebrated with an Open House.  Rev. Bruce Cannon and David Chesnutt are the primary “movers and shakers” in the project that will help those with addiction problems.  The campus will be open to all for a tour.  Rep. William Brisson will also speak.  He was instrumental in securing the property located at 1086 Susie Sandhill Road, Elizabethtown.
Bladen’s new detention center is moving forward…It will be located on property near the Ag Center on Smith Circle in E-town.
So, how well are you dealing with the hot weather?  When I walk outside and it feels like walking into a blanket of hot air….brings back memories of cropping tobacco near Bladenboro…over 60 years ago…
