Thoughts While ShavingEast Bladen girls basketball team continues play tonight as they move forward in the NCHSAA Class 2A basketball playoffs. The Lady Eagles (29-0) entertain Reidsville (15-11) at 5 p.m. today. Check John Clark’s article on our sports page.

Bladen County Hospital Foundation “A Red Affair Gala” will be held tonight at Lu Mil. Proceeds benefit patients in Bladen County.

Mark your calendar for Bladen We Care’s annual fund-raisers. The Gala is planned for Friday, April 8 at The Venue at White Lake and the golf tournament is set for Vineyard Golf at White Lake on Thursday, April 21. You will be hearing more about both. Tickets are available and donations are welcomed. Proceeds benefit Bladen residents who fall through the cracks in the medical assistance programs.

The more I think about the most recent Republican Presidential debate, the more it bothers me. Candidates calling each other “liars” and other such “disrespectful” names. Gentlemen and ladies should debate in a respectable manner. My mom would “dress them down” for their lack of respect for each other.

What are your thoughts about the latest rendering of new lines for NC Congressional Districts? It appears about 2/3s of Bladen is in a District that includes Union (Monroe) and Cabarrus (Concord), Anson (Wadesboro) and other counties along the South Carolina line to include portions of Bladen. The balance of Bladen remains in the 7th Congressional District. Shouldn’t be that way. Another reason why there should be an independent effort to draw the lines following the 2020 ‘head count’ even if the courts uphold the re-drawing of the current Congressional Districts.

Today is one of it’s kind; it won’t come again. Bring joy to someone, speak good words and use them to heal, encourage others and learn to care.

One person caring about another represents life’s greatest value.

A real friend is one who is honest, humble, loyal, helpful, caring and loving.
