ELIZABETHTOWN – Whiteville defeated East Bladen 3-0 Tuesday in non-conference volleyball action by set scores of 25-9, 25-16 and 25-19.
 
The Lady Wolfpack grabbed an early 7-1 lead in the first set, before senior Anna Grace Long and sophmore Ashley Hardin tallied service points for East, and senior Lexie Mendell slammed in a pair of kills.
 
Hardin blasted in a winner from the back-row and junior Hannah Devane added a service point as the Lady Eagles pulled to within 9-7. However, Whiteville closed the set with a 16-2 run.
 
Long knocked in a kill for the first Lady Eagle point in the second set. Hardin drilled in a pair of aces and added a service point as East Bladen built a 5-3 lead.
 
Whiteville tied the score 5-5, but Devane slammed in a kill and collected a service point as Mendell scored on a block for a 7-6 lead.
 
A 6-0 Whiteville spurt put the visitors in front 12-7, before Mendell fired in an ace to cap her run of 4 straight service points that tied the set 12-12. Long contributed a block to the Lady Eagle run.
 
Senior Alexa Hernandez smacked in a kill, and senior Bethany Lesane contributed a service point for a 15-14 East Bladen lead. Whiteville then used an 11-1 spurt to take the second set.
 
Hardin pushed across a winner, and Long added a service point for an early 3-1 East lead in Set 3. Mendell hammered in a kill that ignited a run of 4 straight service points for Hardin that stretched the lead to 8-2.
 
Whiteville trimmed the margin to 9-8, but a pair of Mendell service points kept East in front 12-8. Dy’Asia McDowell’s service point kept the Lady Eagle lead at 14-11.
 
The Lady Wolfpack answered with 6 straight points, before Hardin belted a return winner to whittle the Whiteville lead to 17-15.
 
The Whiteville lead grew to 22-16, before service points from junior Kaley Smith and Hardin plus a pair of Mendell kills narrowed the gap to 23-19.
 
Hardin led the Lady Eagles with 13 service points, 2 aces and 3 kills. Mendell racked up 8 service points, 5 kills, a block and an ace. Devane contributed 6 service points and a kill.
 
Long totaled 5 service points, a kill and a block. Smith and McDowell collected 2 service points each. Hernandez had a service point and a kill. Junior Shardajah Brown pounded in a kill.  
 
East Bladen is now 3-3 on the season and will host Midway in their Four County Conference opener Thursday at 4:30.
 
Whiteville won the jayvee match 2-0 by set scores of 25-17 and 25-23.
 
Gracyn Martin topped the Lady Eagle scoring with 10 service points, 3 aces and a kill. Teammate Ruth Ward tallied 8 service points and 2 aces. Izzy Smith finished with 6 service points and an ace.
 
Adrienne Howell delivered 6 service points for the Lady Eagles, and teammate Sarah Johnson added 5 service points, an ace and a kill. Cybil Campbell knocked in 2 kills and 5 service points for East.
 
Lorna Mendell slammed in 2 kills, and Abigail Cross added a service point for the Lady Eagles.
